Level 3 Certificate in Counselling Studies

Course Aims

This qualification is intended for candidates who have already acquired a level 2 recognised qualification in counselling skills.

This course will help you to:

  • take the next step in training to become a counsellor
  • learn more about counselling theory, ethics and mental health
  • be better prepared for work as a counsellor in an agency setting

Who will benefit from this course

This qualification could lead to employment or increase employability for those whose role is to support others e.g. health and social care work, teaching and learning, advocacy and mediation, support and project work as well as other helping roles.

It provides additional skills for those already in employment likely to lead to increased opportunities for promotion and advancement.

Entry requirements

You must have undertaken counselling skills training, e.g. our Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Skills or equivalent units/qualifications of at least 75 Guided Learning Hours.

You will be asked to attend an interview where you will discuss your readiness to embark on the next stage of training and how you think you meet the characteristics identified below:

  • Emotional stability
  • Evidence of personal insight
  • Ability to form a helping relationship
  • Awareness of difference and diversity
  • Are able to cope with the course content
  • Be motivated towards developing as a counselling practitioner
