Returning to the classroom at the age of 40 yrs old was something of a challenge for me. I was apprehensive to sign up for the Introduction to Counselling Skills although I had harboured an interest in learning more about ‘the art of listening’ for a while, I hadn’t done anything about it. I didn’t feel like I had enough free time, education, or capacity.
Sharon did an excellent job providing information, advice, interactive participation, and homework that helped me discover my own capacity to ‘actively listen’ to others, a valuable lesson to integrate into all aspects of my life. This class was inspirational because it is taught by someone who walks the talk. She is a practising counsellor, but also a great teacher who brings the subject alive with genuine anecdotes.
I thoroughly enjoyed Sharon’s approach to teaching, she was professional, engaging and enthusiastic about her subject which made the structure of each session informative and productive. The course was adaptable to all abilities, but still pacey & challenging with many thought provoking exercises which enabled me to ask myself ‘Could I be a counsellor’?
After completing The Introduction to Counselling Skills course, I continued my training through to Professional Diploma level & qualified as a Counsellor in 2014. Here in 2018 I am now a BACP Accredited Counsellor delivered psycho-therapeutic support for Sharon’s highly respected and successful company ‘The Listening Centre’.
Having the confidence to step into a classroom environment again was something I wasn’t sure I could handle emotionally after a few life challenges. I was nervous to sign up for the Introduction to Counselling Skills course but I wanted to learn more about listening skilIs. I knew this course could help me so much and could ultimately better my career. I was concerned I wouldn’t have enough time to meet the requirements of the course not to mention the brain capacity to learn something completely new to me.
Sharon was wonderful at providing the information, advice and homework that helped me discover my ability to listen to others. The class was different to others I looked at because it was taught by someone who was not just a lecturer, but a counsellor herself. She made the teaching interactive, relaxing and fun! Sharon was so enthusiastic and always encouraged me to have a one to one if I needed extra support. The course was challenging (but in a good way) and left me knowing I could use the skills I learned in all aspects of my life.
I met Sharon when I was undertaking the Advanced Diploma in Humanistic Counselling at South Staffs College , the class I was attending were struggling as we had had several tutors and we felt at the time quite let down and despondent. Sharon came along and she was a breath of fresh air; she was focused and wanted all of us to achieve our full potential and this was evident in her teaching style.
Sharon is extremely professional, engaging and enthusiastic about her subject which made the structure of each session informative and productive. Sharon adapted the course and her teaching according to the individuals needs in the group, but was still focused and challenging.
Sharon was congruent and delivered a lot of thought provoking exercises which made me believe in myself that I could become a counsellor.
With Sharon’s support I was able to source and make the most of my placement providing me with the skills and experience to develop and I qualified as a counsellor in 2014.
Here in 2018 I am now a BACP Accredited Counsellor delivering an integrated counselling service both in private practice and for a highly respected and successful Employer Assistance Provider business.
